In
spring 2001, construction crews removed the road over Horsetooth
Dam along with 13 feet of rock and fill. |

Horsetooth
Reservoir, in May 2001, holds about 47,000 acre feet of water,
or one-third of its capacity. |

After
five years of high water, the exposed shoreline at Horsetooth
Reservoir looks unfamiliar. |

Horsetooth
Dam is the first of the reservoir's four dams to undergo modernization.
Work had already begun on the dam's face when this photo was
taken in spring 2001. |

In
April 2001, Fort Collins Utilities installed a 350-pound solar
powered, computerized buoy near Soldier Canyon Dam. The Remote
Underwater Sampling Station will monitor water quality during
and after dam repairs. |

County Parks and Open Lands extended one boat ramp at Horsetooth
Reservoir and extended another. The new one (right) is about
200 yards north of the swim beach and provides boating access
to elevation 5,333. The extended one (far left), at the swim
beach, allows boats to launch at elevation 5,354. Reclamation
requires the reservoir's elevation to remain below 5,360 feet
during construction to ensure dam safety. |
